Many companies launch a web site to present public information about the company, its products and management team.This might be used to provide white papers to registered users but generally, the information is public.
They soon reach a point where they need an extension - a customer portal or Extranet where they can make available documents, training materials, software releases and any other design collateral that their customers require to use their technology.
This problem consists of several parts - a web template for the Extranet, a content management system to control the layout and content, and a document control engine to authenticate which customers are licensed to see which content.
Our solution is to integrate CogniDox with the popular, open source Joomla! CMS. CogniDox is responsible for controlling access to the design collateral. This is managed using the normal, Intranet version of CogniDox and, when the criteria for publishing content to the outside world have been met, that content is automatically populated to the customer portal with no further effort required.
On the customer portal side, the licensed customer sees documents available for download, can watch training video screencasts, can send in trouble tickets for support, and browse a knowledge base of frequently asked questions.
