SugarCRM provides the world-leading open-source Sugarâ„¢ customer relationship management (CRM) software solution.
The company follows a dual license approach to licensing. There is a Community Edition which is available to download "as-is" as free software under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 3. The product is currently used by over 4000 customers and has been downloaded over five million times.
Sugar is also available under commercial license - there is a Professional and Enterprise Edition to choose from. These bring additional features and technical support directly from SugarCRM. These are available as hosted or on-premises installations.
In Release 7.0.6 (Winter|2008) we added a generic plug-in framework to CogniDox that allows data transfer to other software applications, and the first example was a plug-in for Sugar that works with all editions. As the sales team convert Leads into Contacts at Accounts, one of the final steps is to simply "cognidox enable" the Account. Once enabled, any Accounts created or edited in Sugar will be updated as CogniDox Licensees. Contacts in Sugar Accounts will be automatically created and updated as CogniDox Contacts. When a contact has been imported into CogniDox from Sugar, their CogniDox extranet login will appear in Sugar.
The benefit and major advantage of this over Sugar alone is that it enables the powerful License Management and content access permissions features of CogniDox to be fully and seamlessly integrated with the CRM features of Sugar.
